Activity

Read Act 4- 5:
Students are reporters in a popular newspaper of Hamlet’s time. They were just informed about the Royal family’s tragedy, which is the major event of the day. They write an article describing the events for the front page of the newspaper. Students work in groups, choose the name of the newspaper they work for, and publish their articles.  A ppt presentation is created to present the newspaper headlines concerning this tragic event.

Letters

I am very sad
I think that men are bad
Hamlet broke my heart
I didn’t dove him very much

Brother, I am going to die
I will commit suicide
Because I don’t like my life
So I say you bye, bye

Denmark, 5th June

Dear Hamlet,
I am very sad… You didn’t speak to me, you didn’t tell me your problems, and you didn’t give me your love… Now, it is late… I can’t think of anything else but you…
You’re original, funny, nice, serious… you are perfect for me, but now my heart is broken!
Oh, my Hamlet! What shall I do without you?
Mu father never liked you, but I liked, and like you so much. You are the v¡best and I will always love you.
My Hamlet, my perfect Hamlet…
Your Ophelia,
Forever… You
I love you

Dear Hamlet,
I’m writing this letter because I’m going to die. I want to tell you that I love you. I have loved you since the very first day I met you but I am very sad because I was silly and I never told you how much I love you and I want to spend all my life next to you.
Love,
Ophelia

Dear Laertes,
I’m unhappy because Hamlet is distracted. He is nice, handsome and intelligent for me. I love him, but now, I can’t stand him any more. I’m dying and I need you, brother.
Ophelia

Laertes,
I am going to kill myself because Hamlet doesn’t love me. I am sad and bored in the tree next to the river. Winter is going to end and the river flows so fast… the storm is coming. I’ll go to heaven. Don’t worry, I’ll be better.
Bye
Ophelia
(For you to tell Hamlet)

I committed suicide because I wanted Hamlet but he never wanted me. I will be better when I die. I don’t like my life, it is horrible.

Dear Hamlet,
You’re all my life, but our love is dead. I needed you but I was stupid and now my heart is broken. I don’t want to live in this world. Your honour is more important than our love. I think that’s true.
PS. When you read this letter, I won’t be here.
Ophelia

Dear brother,
My problem with Hamlet is horrible. He doesn’t love me and I love him so much. I am going to jump from the tree because I am suffering a lot because Hamlet doesn’t pay any attention to me. But don’t worry…
I don’t want to live without Hamlet. He is everything I need. He is perfect for me. He is very funny, nice and a good person because he helps people.
He is my best friend but I think love is not for me so I’ll say goodbye to you forever.
Goodbye brother,
Ophelia

Dear Hamlet,
Do you remember when you were young?
We used to be together. You were my best friend. When I grew up I had another feeling about you. I loved you! You didn’t know about it and no other else knew either. When I dared to tell you it was so late! You had left…
Now that it is too late life doesn’t need me.
Sorry Hamlet, I hope that we’ll meet in heaven.
Ophelia

If you love
But I love you more
If you don’t love me
I die and
I don’t want to enjoy my life
If you don’t listen to me
I don’t want to listen to anyone
If you leave me
I will feel awful
I will kill myself

Love Letters to Hamlet

Poem

You, my Soul,
you betrayed my feelings
weak as the truest of loves
foolish heart weeps nostalgic tears
of unrequited love
betrayed and rejected
you have mocked me
pretending to be a pretender
you played with my love
now, bitter tears fall to the ground.
I leave.

Activity

 Students read Act 2-3:
Imagine you are Ophelia.  Just before your death you leave a letter, poem or song describing your unrequited love.  Students work in groups to create one of these pieces of writing and also collect poems, songs from their countries in which unrequited love is the main theme.

Creative writing. A cooperative story

It was late in the evening when we decided to take a walk with our friends in the forest.
It was getting darker and darker when we finally reached the castle. It was a scary and weird place, but Athanasia and I had been there before, so we wanted to show that place to our friends, as well.

We found the entrance to the castle and we got in at once! But the door, suddenly, shut by itself! We started feeling a bit strange but we tried to remain as calm as possible! The castle was huge..We didn't know which way to follow.

Suddenly, a creepy sound was heard and a ghost appeared in front of us! We weren't afraid and we asked him who he was.  He answered to us in a polite way.  He told us that he wanted to find his son, Hamlet, and that he was his father.  We told him our story and we also adviced him to go upstairs, since we hadn't met anyone on our way in.  In fact, we told him to go to the eighth room, as we saw someone looking out from its window, so we thought that he could be Hamlet.

He did go on the upper floor and there he met Hamlet.  He told his son the truth about his death and asked him to take revenge.  He came to us again, he seemed relieved now.  He gave twenty huge bags full of candies to each one of us to thank us:))) We were so excited! He also showed us a shorter way to go home. He was so kind and we felt sorry for his death, too!

What would you do if you saw a ghost?

We were on a train to the castle. I was walking with my two friends and I felt happy, comfortable and safe. Looking around the place everything looked as usual. The castle was colossal, very pretty and interesting. Suddenly, we heard a noise. We felt scared, frightened. The noise repeated, and when we looked around we saw a ghost. It was ugly, big and familiar. It seemed to want to tell us something. Our hearts beat. We stopped and panicked, thinking about what we can do. We ran to a car and drove back to the city. After that we never visited the castle again. We still don’t know what the ghost wanted.

One day I was walking near a castle with my friends when we decided to get in. We saw a long corridor. After that, we saw a door with a lot of light. My friend and I entered the room. Suddenly, I saw a ghost. He didn’t say anything. He looked like my uncle.
We ran out of the castle. We were scared. I told my parents but they didn’t believe me. At the end I got mad. I don’t know anything about my friends. I think the police are still looking for them.

Activity

Close your eyes and relax.
Imagine a cold, dark night.
You are with 2 of your friends.
You walk towards a castle.
You know this place, because you have been here before.
As you look around, you see everything, as it should be.
The castle is large and extraordinary.
There are large gates at each end.
You enter one of the gates.
Inside, as you talk and laugh with your friends, you hear a noise.
It startles you, because it is usually quiet on nights like these.
You hear the noise again.
Scared, you and your friends look up and see a ghost.
The ghost doesn’t speak, yet he looks familiar.
What do you do?
Do you speak to the ghost, or do you run and hide?
Are you scared?
Do you fill the goose bumps on your arms? Is the hair on the back of your neck standing
up?
Who is this ghost you see?
Suddenly, the ghost disappears into thin air.
You are left there wondering what is happening.
Now, tell your muscles to begin to move.
Open your eyes.
Stretch.
Take out a piece of paper and write about your experience.
